Haiti commemorated World Tourism Day on Monday under the theme “Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence to Rethink Tourism.” The event, held in Pétion-Ville, brought together several government officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and various stakeholders in the tourism sector.
There is nothing wrong with Haiti commemorating such a day. After all, the country has a Ministry of Tourism that is supposed to oversee the sector. Our tangible and intangible heritage, our sunshine, and our beaches have nothing to envy those of our neighbors, who have made tourism a vital sector of their economies. Yet our tourism sector is dying.
