Amid the crumbling walls of what remains of the Carrefour Reception Center (CAC), dozens of children are rediscovering, or simply discovering for the first time, the benches of the school. The initiative to reopen this somewhat unique educational establishment was taken as early as June 2026, following four years of closure. For the past three weeks, the institution has been operating at full capacity, striving to give a new chance to these children who were wandering the streets of Carrefour.

On Friday, October 2, 2026, several dozen young boys in civilian clothes were attending classes in the various classrooms of the center. Notebooks in hand—some only have a blank sheet—they listen attentively to their teachers. "The laundresses do not work on weekends. So, we give them the uniforms so they can wash them every Friday. That's why on the last day of the week, the students always dress in civilian clothes," explains Jacques Junior Chérélus, logistics manager at the Reception Center, as he shows us around the classrooms.
