The chief of staff of the director general of the National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA), Guichard Doré, defends the draft pension reform developed by the institution's officials on the sidelines of the National Forum on the Modernization and Strengthening of the General Pension System in Haiti, held from September 16 to 18, 2026. The day before, on the show Panel Magik, lawyer Jean Bonald Fatal denounced a 'suicidal' draft pension reform for contributors.

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, still on the Panel Magik show, Guichard Doré sought to defend this reform which, according to him, aims to correct the gap between the social and economic realities that prevailed at the time of the establishment of the Haitian pension system, in the 1960s and 1980s, and those that prevail today. Among the changes that have occurred is the increase in life expectancy in Haiti, which has risen from 45 to 65 years, as well as the significant increase in the number of ONA pensioners. 'In the ONA’s data, we have noted that when a person retires, after five years, they have already exhausted the amount of their contributions, while they will still live for another 10 to 15 years,' explained Guichard Doré.
