The Organization of the People in Struggle (OPL) welcomed the arrival of Salvadoran soldiers in Haiti. For Kétel Jean-Philippe, the party's leader, their presence is a good thing as it should provide a serious response to the actions of armed gangs that, for several years, have not been deterred by law enforcement, despite numerous efforts by local authorities and the international community to curb their actions.
And if there is anything that could justify the arrival of these South American troops, according to Kétel Jean-Philippe, it is the helplessness of the Haitian state. "Haitians have been dying for a long time, while the state is absent. There is no response, there is no proportional reply to these barbaric acts," stated the OPL leader. "We commend President Bukele's approach [...] We believe this is a helping hand that should allow us to put an end to this situation," he emphasized.
