The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), the Haitian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (CNHCU), and the National Agency for Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANESRS) commemorated, on Friday, October 30, 2026, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Jean Price Mars. Held at the Montana hotel in Pétion-Ville, this event gathered several figures from the university sector around the work and legacy of this major figure of the Haitian intelligentsia.

Under the theme "Diplomacy, Identity, and National Dignity," this commemorative day provided an opportunity to revisit the thoughts of Jean Price Mars through the interventions of several authors and professors from the State University of Haiti (UEH), including Hérold Toussaint, Laënnec Hurbon, and Jhon Picard Byron. Through various discussion panels, the speakers notably analyzed major works of the Haitian intellectual, including Thus Spoke the Uncle and The Vocation of the Elite. The discussions focused on several central themes of his thought, including the struggle against racist prejudices and cultural Bovarysme, the rehabilitation of Vodou and African heritages, Black internationalism, and the quest for the common good.
