This year, the figures on the number of hungry Haitians have skyrocketed. Children, youth, and adults are all affected. This is the result of the gang war against peasants and various neighborhoods in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. Reports on the worsening living conditions throughout the country are overwhelming, as are those on criminal activities. In the past few days, the Haitian National Police, the institution responsible for protecting lives and property in the country, has begun to make progress.
Can the same be said for the institutions responsible for social protection and the fight against food insecurity across the country? We know that the government and its partners are aware that the number of Haitians living in poverty has increased significantly. Prior to last week's report from the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) listing Haiti among the seven countries experiencing famine and destitution in 2022, the National Coordination for Food Security (CNSA) had been sounding the alarm for months through its reports.
