The days of Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3 were marked by humid and unstable weather conditions that resulted in heavy rainfall in several regions of Haiti. "In the morning of June 3, heavy rains poured down on the country, causing rivers to overflow. The recorded rainfall amounts led to flooding and landslides in certain areas. Local authorities had to implement emergency measures to ensure the safety of the affected populations," stated the DPC.
"Although the weather situation has returned to normal, Haiti's hydrometeorological unit still maintains a flood, landslide, and mudslide alert throughout the country due to the amount of water that the soil has already received." Therefore, the civil protection agency urges populations in at-risk areas to remain vigilant and continue implementing emergency safety measures. "If you live in a dangerous area, such as by the seaside, near a river, on a mountainside, or in an area prone to flooding, evacuate, don't let the water engulf you," said the director of the DPC.
