In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, Jean Victor Généus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, emphasized that "security remains the top priority of the government" and expressed concern over the country's ongoing critical security situation despite five ministerial meetings on security in Haiti. Généus stated, "During my intervention, I underscored that security remains the utmost priority of the government... I also expressed the hope that this meeting will yield concrete results, avoiding a repetition of previous gatherings. It is regrettable that we find ourselves in this critical phase of our national life even after five ministerial meetings on security in Haiti." The Minister of Foreign Affairs further highlighted the worrisome security situation despite the commendable efforts of the Haitian security forces, backed by the support of the population. He reiterated the urgent needs of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and emphasized that the country is gradually falling into indifference.

"The PNH requires weapons, ammunition, adequate equipment, and training to restore order and ensure stability," emphasized Chancellor Généus, underscoring the crucial nature of reestablishing security. "This is an indispensable prerequisite for conducting long-overdue general elections," he asserted. Noteworthy participants in this virtual meeting on Haiti included the Chancellor of Canada, the Secretary of State of the United States, as well as representatives from Spain, Japan, Jamaica, Peru, Chile, Rwanda, Kenya, France, Brazil, the European Union, UNDP, Italy, and the UN Secretary-General's representative in Haiti, Mrs. Maria Isabel Salvador, according to Jean Victor Généus. Canada presided over this fifth meeting. During the ministerial gathering with key partners to discuss the security situation in Haiti, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, announced her country's commitment to provide $10 million in funding to the Basket Fund and to support the establishment of a security coordination cell on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
