Poverty is gaining ground in Haiti. With 4.9 million people facing food insecurity and an inflation rate of 48.3% in March 2023 compared to the previous year, the social program of the Henry government is moving at a slow pace. According to government sources, this is due to the concern of spending the funds properly to avoid questions about the whereabouts of the money from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, the Henry government is working to ensure that the social program gains momentum following the decision to allocate 25% of the 21 billion gourdes budget. Meetings have been held with the National Public Procurement Commission (CNMP) and the Court of Auditors for this purpose, as reported by Le Nouvelliste.

"The meeting with the Court of Auditors has just ended. The objective is to request emergency benefits through mobilization, if necessary, by recruiting additional staff to expedite the processing time of applications, while respecting the criteria required in public procurement," said Minister of Commerce and Industry Ricardin Saint-Jean to Le Nouvelliste on Friday, June 16, 2023.
