Since the passing of the renowned journalist and programming director of Radio Kiskeya on July 31st, malicious individuals have been attempting to sully the strong and irreversible reputation of Liliane Pierre-Paul, an icon of Haitian press. Some, lurking in the shadows, are fueling social media with baseless nonsense. In a statement released on August 4th, the family of the star journalist of "Jounal 4 è" strongly condemns "fantastical allegations, fake information, slanderous campaigns, hatred..." against the late journalist.
"In the midst of great sorrow over the sudden loss of our Liliane Pierre-Paul, Lili, the beloved host of 'Jounal 4 è' and co-founder of Radio Télé Kiskeya, our family wishes to thank all the individuals, institutions, organizations, and citizens who expressed their sympathies on the occasion of this tragedy," the statement reads.
"United more than ever to face the unbearable ordeal of Lili's cruel death, her family also condemns the fantastical allegations, fake information, slanderous campaigns, hatred, and politically motivated attempts to manipulate public opinion deliberately broadcasted on airwaves and social networks through intrusive media that thrive primarily on scandals and intrude - up to the utmost indecency and the most abhorrent irresponsibility - into the sphere of private life," the members of Liliane Pierre-Paul's family denounce in this statement.
The aforementioned family members of Liliane emphasize that "the colossal legacy of the national icon Liliane Pierre-Paul, the result of decades of hard work, sacrifice, total dedication to the homeland, and journalism in service of the people, will survive the ultra-reactionary view of some people's history and the toxic human degradation of others."
Liliane's family also stated that the public will be informed later of the date and location of the funeral, as well as the organization of the tribute to be paid "with dignity and respect to this emblematic figure of independent Haitian press and a major player in democratic and popular struggles," according to this statement published by Harold Isaac, Djuly Maillard Pierre-Paul, Larisse Jean, Carol Pierre-Paul Jacob, Berthony Pierre-Paul, Markès Pierre-Paul, Stéphane Pierre-Paul, Gessika Thomas Isaac, Sophie Jacob, and Frantz Jacob.
While preparing to go to Radio Kiskeya to present the highly-listened-to "Jounal 4 è" on July 31st, Liliane Pierre-Paul suffered a fatal heart attack.
