Creole is not one of UNESCO's six official languages, at least not yet. However, Haiti's Permanent Representative to UNESCO insisted on using it to mark the indelible moment of the country's first Vice Presidency in the United Nations organization.
"I would like to take the floor to express a brief but heartfelt word: thank you. A big, heartfelt thank you for your support because, for the first time in our 77-year history within UNESCO, Haiti will play a role as the Vice President of the Executive Board. I am deeply honored by your trust. Gratitude and respect to all of you.
