The Multinational Security Support Mission is not an end in itself but a component of a broader strategy to support Haiti, where stakeholders must come together to address political issues and conduct elections in the country after eight years, explained the U.S. representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, during an informal briefing on Haiti at the Security Council on Monday, December 18, 2023.

"We must view the MSS mission not as an end but as a part of an overall strategy to provide diplomatic, humanitarian, and capacity-building support to Haiti," said the diplomat, reaffirming her country's commitment to fund this mission, which will not carry out a "peacekeeping mission" at a cost of $200 million.
