According to the latest data, approximately 120,000 Haitians have been approved for the Humanitarian Parole program initiated by U.S. President Joe Biden. "Haitians are at the top of the list among beneficiaries," stated Attorney Frandley Denis Julien on the Panel Magik show on Sunday, January 7th. Despite this significant number, there are still 600,000 pending applications, some dating back over a year. "Those who have not yet received approval should not worry," reassured Attorney Julien while expressing some concerns. "When they launched the program, in meetings with some immigration lawyers, they warned that the program could be suspended at any time. As we enter an election year in January in the United States, where even Democrats face challenges related to Biden's immigration policy, this could be a factor leading to the program's suspension to avoid an immigration debate. Despite the possibility of suspension at any time, those awaiting approval do not need to worry. Every day, new people are being approved," nuanced Attorney Julien.
Biden's humanitarian program provides officers with a wide range of discretion. There is room for their judgment. "The officer handling the case has discretionary power to approve or do otherwise. In recent months, another question has been introduced in the application, asking why the applicant should be approved. Based on this question, many people may not be approved due to inappropriate answers. They tend to highlight issues in their home country. By answering in this way, they imply that they do not wish to return to their country," explained the attorney.
