Economist Pierre-Marie Boisson believes that the government must adopt appropriate public policies to "recycle" the portion of transfers that goes into the banking system, with the aim of redirecting "borrowers towards noble jobs."
Transfers from the diaspora without counterpart constitute the backbone of the Haitian economy, which is undermined by continuous crises in the country. "Through the circulation of money in Haiti and what it does, there is a portion that remains in the banking system because there is no simultaneity of sending the dollar and its return in the form of imports. There is transit in the Haitian economy that creates jobs, added value, and deposits in the banking system," revealed Pierre-Marie Boisson on the "Panel Magik" show on Monday, January 15. The economist pointed out that this banking system plays a role as "treasury" and "loan." However, decision-makers cannot decide to grant loans only to people working in industries. "Those who borrow will invest based on solvency demand," he admitted.
