At the initiative of the Creole service of Voice of America, the US Agency for Global Media, and the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, a group of 15 journalists participated in a security training in hostile environments in Miami. The seminar, held from January 22 to 24, 2024, at the Miami Airsoft training center, was conducted by Julio Cruz and Frank Smyth from Global Journalist Security (GJS). The sessions covered topics such as kidnapping, physical assaults, first aid, personal security, digital security, and more.
After three days of training, the participants, interviewed by the newspaper, expressed their satisfaction. Manuel Yves, a journalist at Radio Scoop FM, believes that the presentations will be beneficial not only for him but also for his colleagues. "After these 3 days, I am very pleased to know how to behave in a hostile environment and how to assist a colleague in difficulty. I commit to sharing the knowledge I have gained with my colleagues," he promised.
