According to the latest government statement, the BSAP has a completely illegal status, believes Ashley Laraque, noting the appointment of a commission aimed at its restructuring. "No one knows how many legal individuals are part of the BSAP, its actual workforce, the budget provided by the government, and its mission. We expect the commission to restructure this entity so that we can know its true status," requested Ashley Laraque, who participated in the Panel Magik show on Friday, January 26. He believes that the former director of this entity, who has been in charge since its creation in 2017, is not the only one to blame. "Complicity can occur in two ways: by letting things happen or by favoring them. I believe the government is responsible," he argued.
The ex-military personnel anticipates a political takeover of the BSAP. "The government created a body without equipping it; they rarely receive a salary or never. They need a means of survival. They are armed and unpaid, with no defined mission for protected areas. They have no hierarchical authorities. Consequently, they assign themselves their own mission," analyzed Ashley Laraque.
