The European Union is set to allocate three million euros to the joint support program for the Haitian National Police, commonly known as the "Basket Fund." Representatives from the European Union delegation, UNDP, and UNODC signed a financing agreement to this effect on Thursday, February 1. The official ceremony took place at the headquarters of the PNH in Clercine, in the presence of the police director general, Frantz Elbé, high-ranking members of the police institution, Minister of Justice and Public Security Emmelie Prophète Milcé, BINUH chief Maria Isabel Salvador, EU representative Stefano Gatto, and acting UNDP representative Xavier Michon.

In his speech, the police chief thanked the European Union for its contribution to the common fund. He took the opportunity to thank all the countries that have already contributed and those preparing to "join this great solidarity effort towards the PNH." Frantz Elbé invited UNDP, the fund manager, to work closely with the PNH focal point to better coordinate actions to address the institution's real and urgent needs. Elbé assured donors and police partners that the assets and resources provided to the PNH would be used responsibly.
