Yuji Kubo, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Japan to Haiti, visited Le Nouvelliste on Monday, January 29, 2024. Appointed to Haiti in December 2021, Mr. Kubo is the first extraordinary and plenipotentiary Japanese ambassador to Haiti. Prior to him, the Land of the Rising Sun, which resumed diplomatic relations with Haiti in 1956, was represented in Port-au-Prince by chargés d'affaires. During his visit to the newspaper, the diplomat reviewed the cooperation between the two countries.

The diplomat praised the friendly relations between the two countries. According to him, Japan has been providing considerable support to Haiti for years. Both countries share the fact that they are both under the threat of natural disasters, particularly earthquakes. "The Japanese people have a lot of sympathy for the Haitian people," said Yuji Kubo, recalling that this solidarity was evident, particularly during the earthquakes of January 2010 and August 2021.
