Edgard Leblanc Fils, Leslie Voltaire, Marie Ghislaine Mompremier, Fritz Alphonse Jean, Laurent St Cyr, and (Vikerson Garnier or Levaillant Louis-Jeune or Charles Tardieu) have been chosen by six political organizations and civil society to form the seven-member Transitional Presidential Council.
The vast majority of political organizations and civil society groups involved in negotiations with Caricom government leaders have already submitted the name of their representative to the Transitional Presidential Council. While the Pitit Dessalines political party has officially rejected the offer to participate in the Transitional Council, members of the December 21 Accord are divided on their choice.
The Transitional Presidential Council, which was supposed to be effective since Wednesday, March 13, is still in the process of formation. Most of the sectors expected to send representatives to the Council have confirmed to Le Nouvelliste that they have already officially submitted names to Caricom.
"Yes, the coalition composed of EDE, RED, Compris historique, and allies has already submitted the name of Marie Ghislaine Mompremier to Caricom," officials from this coalition told Le Nouvelliste.
The Collective of Political Parties of January 30, composed of Mopod, Unir, PHTK, Lapeh, OPL, has chosen former senator and coordinator of the OPL political party, Edgard Leblanc Fils, as their representative to the Transitional Presidential Council, confirmed Liné Balthazar, president of PHTK, to Le Nouvelliste.
The business sector is represented on the Transitional Presidential Council by Laurent St Cyr. He was also appointed by the business sector to the High Transition Council under the December 21 Accord.
Professor Dunois Erick Cantave, coordinator of the support committee for the Montana Accord negotiations, told Le Nouvelliste that the name of Fritz Alphonse Jean has been officially sent to Caricom to join the Transitional Presidential Council.
"Yes, this has been done, although I am still indignant and skeptical about this process. There is a current that believes we must be present in all fights despite our reservations," he told the newspaper.
However, Le Nouvelliste wrote on Thursday to Professor Jacques Ted St-Dic and Madame Magalie Comeau Denis, two influential members of the Monitoring Bureau of the Montana Accord (BSA), to confirm the sending of Fritz Alphonse Jean's name to Caricom, but they did not respond to the newspaper's request for confirmation.
Dr. Maryse Narcisse and Joël Vorbe, members of the directorate of Fanmi Lavalas, told Le Nouvelliste that their party has officially sent Leslie Voltaire's name to Caricom as their representative to the Transitional Presidential Council.
Divided, the signatories of the December 21 Accord have designated not one, but three names as representatives to the Transitional Presidential Council. Each branch of this agreement tries to assert itself. Vikerson Garnier, Levaillant Louis-Jeune, and Charles Tardieu are the three choices of the three blocs of the December 21 Accord.
Only the leader of the Pitit Dessalines political party, Moïse Jean-Charles, said he rejects the seven-member Transitional Presidential Council.
"We had a meeting with Caricom leaders on Saturday, March 9. It was not a meeting to gain their favor. We revealed our plan based on a three-member Transitional Presidential Council," former senator Moïse Jean-Charles said in a press conference on Wednesday.
For the moment, even though six out of seven political organizations and civil society sectors have confirmed to Le Nouvelliste the name of their representative to the Transitional Presidential Council, none of them have publicly communicated their choice to the population.
