"The Haitian Medical Association, on behalf of all its members, wishes to raise its voice in this tumultuous and alarming situation that is disrupting the lives of all citizens of our country," denounced the HMA.
In the same statement, the Haitian Medical Association noted that "this socio-political crisis, which evidently has rejected the established order, does not meet the legitimate aspirations of the majority of citizens, groups of people, and families making up Haitian society."
"The HMA expresses its dismay at certain acts of vandalism perpetrated across Haitian territory, such as looting and pillaging, the forced closure of hospitals, physical violence against the healthcare personnel of these public and private healthcare institutions, across all categories. The right to health, this precious asset, derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and our constitution, meets the greatest aspirations of humanity since its origins," reads the statement.
As a proposal, the HMA called for "the peaceful search for solutions that meet the desires of the Haitian people and also respect the inalienable rights of all individuals without distinction, and particularly respect for healthcare institutions and personnel. Because health is a fundamental need for the women, children, men, youth, and elderly of our country, Haiti. It is a matter of well-being and security for all."
After the SOS issued by the Association of Private Hospitals of Haiti, the Haitian Medical Association is another organized group that does not hide its concern over the dysfunction and successive closure of the main public and private hospitals in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
