About 15 days after the announcement of Prime Minister Ariel Henry's resignation, CARICOM, political actors, and civil society are struggling to find the right formula to make the Presidential Transition Council functional. The first working meeting on Saturday, March 23, between the members designated to the Council did not advance toward the appointment of the Council.
Among the three agenda items for the meeting on Saturday, March 23, only the question of voting rights for members of the Presidential Council was addressed and adopted. If the majority decided that only the seven regular members of the Council have the right to vote, "René Jean-Jumeau, designated as an observer to the Council by the Rally for National Unity (REN), threatens to withdraw from the process if he is not granted voting rights," reported one of the Council members to Le Nouvelliste.
