Based on Circular 115-5 recently published, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) authorizes financial institutions - commercial banks, development financial companies, leasing companies, savings and credit cooperatives, credit card companies - to grant a moratorium to eligible clients who request it for the period from April 1st to September 30th, 2024, due to the ongoing socio-political turmoil in the country.
Regarding eligible clients (businesses or individuals), Circular 115-5 provides clarifications. "Eligible clients are those whose loans (commercial, consumer, and others) were performing as of September 30, 2023, and are at risk of becoming nonperforming as of March 31, 2024, due to the current socio-political unrest in the country."
