At a time when Le Nouvelliste, the oldest press organization in the country, has lost control of its facilities for the first time in 126 years; when the oldest publication in the country, Le Moniteur, has been vandalized; when the libraries of the Brothers of the Holy Spirit, the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and the National Library are inoperative after gang attacks; and when the main faculties of the State University of Haiti and several private training centers have been attacked, looted, and burned, the urgency of highlighting authors who have woven the threads of Haitian thought since independence has become evident.

Thus, on the occasion of the 30th edition of Livres en Folie, the organizers have decided to remind the collective memory of authors, living or dead, who have written novels, poems, essays, testimonies, conducted research, or other works on Haiti. Ideas, reflections, or imagination—an indestructible heritage—are highlighted.
