At the end of her one-day visit to Haiti, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced additional U.S. funding for security measures and humanitarian aid for Haiti. The high-ranking diplomat held a press conference at the diplomatic lounge of Toussaint Louverture Airport on the afternoon of July 22, 2024.
The humanitarian aid package consists of an additional $60 million channeled through USAID. “This amount will support the Haitian people and alleviate the suffering caused by gang violence and political instability. These funds will help USAID partners address gaps in nutrition, food security, and housing. They will improve water and sanitation services and provide financial aid to enable affected communities to purchase essential goods,” the diplomat stated.
