The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, expressed concern over the persistent underfunding of Haiti's humanitarian needs amid a multidimensional crisis. Speaking on Thursday, August 22, he cited humanitarian actors on the ground. "Our colleagues working in humanitarian aid have warned us that the ongoing underfunding of the humanitarian crisis, in a context of increasing needs and persistent violence, means that millions of Haitians are not receiving the essential support they require. Increased and sustained funding is necessary to curb the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country," the spokesperson urged.

Dujarric highlighted various aspects of Haiti's humanitarian crisis. "Our humanitarian colleagues tell us that displacement has nearly tripled over the past 12 months, with more than 578,000 people forced to flee their homes in search of safety. Half of the newly displaced have fled the capital, Port-au-Prince, heading south.
