In an interview with Radio Magik9, Gédéon Jean expressed his satisfaction with being chosen as the human rights sector representative to the CEP. "Today's election reaffirms the confidence the human rights sector has placed in me after ten years of activism. It’s a recognition of my commitment in a sector that has stood firm in extremely challenging times. People are aware of the dedication I have consistently shown towards this sector," he stated, while emphasizing the need to restore institutional normalcy in the country.
The election was marked by discord, as the OCNH conducted the nomination process independently, even though it was supposed to collaborate with the POHDH. "It’s well known that in the past, the POHDH led this process, but today, the context has changed, and it was supposed to be carried out in conjunction with the OCNH. There were disagreements; they worked on drafting a guide, which they then published. Based on this, 135 organizations registered, and three candidates presented themselves. The process continued according to the guide," Jean explained. "In the name of democracy, an institution may withdraw from the process, just as I, as a candidate, could have withdrawn, but this cannot halt the process," he added.
