President William Ruto of Kenya, whose country leads the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti, called for greater financial and logistical support to ensure the mission's success. The Kenyan head of state delivered his remarks on Thursday, September 26, 2024, during the UN General Assembly. According to Ruto, the progress achieved since the deployment is a promising sign that what was once seen as an impossible mission can indeed become a reality.
“We are eternally grateful to the United States, Canada, and other member countries that have provided financial and logistical support. This assistance has been crucial for the mission's deployment. However, Kenya, along with other Caribbean and African countries, stands ready to deploy further. Yet, we face logistical challenges, including a lack of equipment and funding. That is why I call on all member states to show solidarity with the Haitian people by providing the necessary support—whether directly, by aiding contributing countries, or through the UN Trust Fund,” urged William Ruto.
