The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2752 (2024) with all 15 members in favor, extending for one year the current sanctions regime in Haiti. These sanctions include an arms embargo, travel bans, and asset freezes targeting individuals and entities that threaten the peace, security, or stability of the country. The resolution, presented by Ecuador and the United States, was adopted on Friday, October 18, 2024.
Under this resolution, as outlined in paragraph 2, the Council “decides that all Member States must, for a period of one year starting from the adoption of this resolution, take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale, or transfer to Haiti, from or through their territories, by their nationals, or through vessels flying their flag or aircraft registered in their countries, of arms and related materials of all types, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and equipment, paramilitary equipment, and spare parts, as well as any technical assistance, training, or financial aid related to military activities or the supply, maintenance, or use of all such arms and related materials.”
