Leslie Voltaire, President of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), has formally written to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, requesting the transformation of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) into a peacekeeping mission. This letter, referenced on Tuesday during a UN Security Council meeting by Haiti’s ambassador to the UN, Antonio Rodrigue, was sent on October 21.

In the letter, obtained by Le Nouvelliste, Voltaire, a representative of the Fanmi Lavalas party on the CPT, discussed the challenges faced by the Kenya-led mission in Haiti. "Since its arrival, several joint operations have been carried out with notable results. However, I must emphasize that significant challenges remain to be overcome to allow the Haitian population to go about their daily activities freely. (...) In light of the urgent situation, I am requesting, Mr. Secretary-General, the swift transformation of the MSS into a peacekeeping mission," the letter reads.
