Armed gangs have plunged Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas into chaos, leaving the city paralyzed for over a week. Targeting the general population, these gangs spread violence and grief in their wake. The Haitian Conference of Bishops (CEH) has called this situation unacceptable and urged authorities to act decisively to restore security and protect the population.

"Deeply disturbed by the current political and security situation in our country, and especially by the intensification of violent acts in various areas of the metropolitan zone, we, the Catholic Bishops of Haiti (CEH), raise our voices once again to call for peace and national unity," the bishops wrote in a statement.
