During the installation ceremony of the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé emphasized the importance of reestablishing dialogue with the Dominican Republic.

“Our diplomacy must step out of its comfort zone. It must be more ambitious,” the Prime Minister declared. He continued: “Haitian diplomacy must serve as a tool to protect Haitians living abroad. In this regard, a fraternal dialogue must be initiated between Haitian and Dominican authorities to address the situation of the thousands of our compatriots living in the neighboring republic. These discussions must be conducted in strict adherence to international treaties and conventions, both regarding fundamental rights and the rights of migrants. Our government is committed to ensuring the protection, safety, and respect of the rights of our nationals.”
