On that fateful day, February 29, 2024, when the reconstituted criminal coalition Viv Ansanm began its attacks on the capital, students present on the campus of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) were taken hostage by armed gangs. After numerous calls for help, the students were eventually able to leave the campus. However, the FAMV’s buildings and facilities were vandalized and looted. Since then, students have not returned to the campus.

To complete the academic session that had begun before the attack, FAMV administrators had to be resourceful. "We managed to save the academic year," said Jocelyn Louissaint, dean of the FAMV, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste. "The situation varied depending on the course, but the vast majority of theoretical lectures were conducted online," he explained. For practical sessions, the faculty arranged for them to be held in alternative locations. For example, for the Cartography and Photo Interpretation course, third-year students were able to complete their practical sessions at the National Center for Geospatial Information (CNGIS).
