The commune of Port-au-Prince is gradually falling into the hands of criminal groups. These groups have intensified attacks on the few remaining neighborhoods that had so far escaped their control. With each passing day, criminals seize more territory, claiming lives and property. After several days of fighting, the majority of neighborhoods in Carrefour-Feuilles have been emptied of their residents, who were forced to flee the terror of criminals at the beginning of the week.
Between Wednesday, March 12, and Thursday, March 13, residents of Avenue Christophe, Rue Lafleur Ducheine, Ruelle Waag, and Avenue N were also forced to flee. According to witnesses who spoke to Le Nouvelliste, criminals carried out acts of vandalism at the historic Oloffson Hotel and several buildings in the area. “They broke through fences to operate inside properties without raising suspicion from the police, who only intervene in the streets inside armored vehicles,” a resident explained to the newspaper.
