President Luis Abinader has stated that air traffic between the Dominican Republic and Haiti will remain closed due to high levels of insecurity and instability in the country.

The president was questioned during the La Semanal event about the request made by the President of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council, Fritz Alphonse Jean, for the reopening of airspace—at least between Cap-Haïtien and the border cities. Mr. Jean made this request in an exclusive interview with the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario. During the interview, Fritz Alphonse Jean also advocated for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries that share the island, through the joint commission. A statement was also issued by the Haitian presidency on the matter.
