"It certainly is. That the organizers of Livres en Folie are paying tribute to Frankétienne—who, during his lifetime, had already been a guest of honor at this literary festival—is both significant and historic. The reissue of some of Frankétienne’s works by C3 Éditions also carries great meaning, especially since this leading figure of the Spiral movement has, in recent years, been published or republished mostly abroad (though Haitian publishers and printers like Imprimerie Gaston, Fardinou Editions, and the National Press of Haiti supported Franck’s early years),” shared Samuel Mésène of C3 Éditions.
However, a writer of such caliber must be widely read in his own country. His work must be accessible on every street corner. As we often say, a literature is not truly alive if it is not read in the country it claims to represent.
