The CARICOM Group of Eminent Persons (GPE) consulted with political actors in Haiti last week. Le Nouvelliste was able to confirm this information with several leaders of political coalitions that contributed to the formation of the current Transitional Presidential Council (CPT). The Caribbean envoys are exploring the possibility of holding formal discussions among Haitian stakeholders, as the CPT has thus far failed to restore security or organize elections.

André Michel, leader of the “December 21” coalition, confirmed to Le Nouvelliste that he had discussions with the GPE, which has been mandated by the international community to mediate the Haitian crisis. According to him, CARICOM wishes to resume political negotiations. “It is indeed the GPE that will lead the discussions. In my view, in light of the unequivocal failure of the CPT and the current political governance, resuming negotiations will allow stakeholders to assess the situation and make the necessary corrective decisions with the support of the international community,” he stated to Le Nouvelliste, adding that there is no need to wait until February 7, 2026, to recognize the failure of the current transitional government.
