The latest attack by the Gran Grif gang from Savien, which occurred over the past weekend against the locality, left about ten dead and at least fifteen injured, according to Bertide Horace, spokesperson for the Commission for Dialogue, Reconciliation and Awareness to Save the Artibonite. “It is still difficult to obtain an exhaustive assessment of the criminals’ abuses. They committed many atrocities in ‘Nan potri’; it is difficult to go there since the criminals are still present,” she said. “Thanks to the police officers engaged in the clashes, we currently have this partial toll. But we expect the worst, as many residents are trapped inside their homes. Many houses have been burned down, and it is possible that people were burned alive inside their dwellings,” added Ms. Horace, noting that among those killed were six employees of the ODVA.
The attacks by the Savien gang against Pont-Sondé continued again on Monday, December 1, reports Bertide Horace. According to her, police officers put up resistance against the criminals’ assault, and clashes were recorded in Pont-Sondé and Carrefour Pèy. “The police control only the lower part of Pont-Sondé. Elevated positions such as ‘Nan potri’ are held by the bandits. They have the advantage of the position, which makes their task easier,” observes Bertide Horace.
