Several months after their establishment, the Haitian National Committee on Restitutions and Reparations (CNHRR) and the Franco-Haitian Joint Commission have still not published any report. Institutional divergences and funding inequalities, however, are fueling growing unease.

Established by Presidential Decree of August 5, 2025, the Haitian National Committee on Restitutions and Reparations (CNHRR) is tasked with conducting studies and investigations in order to consolidate Haiti’s case regarding reparations and the restitution of the independence ransom. It is also mandated to finalize the calculations of the amounts to be claimed, taking into account their current value.
