On an official visit to Washington, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé stated that he has initiated discussions in favor of a shift in the approach to international aid to Haiti. In an interview given to Le Nouvelliste on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, he advocated for a transition from humanitarian aid to trade.
“There have been decades of aid being sent to the country. Certainly, there is a difficult situation, there are people living in tents, we need to help these people, but the long-term solution is to give these people the opportunity to create wealth through the possibility of launching their own businesses to meet their needs,” the head of government said, stressing the need for better access to international markets.
