The International Crisis Group's Haiti analyst, Diego Da Rin, offered a detailed analysis Friday on Magik 9 of the letter sent by Jack Christofides, the civilian representative of the Gang Suppression Force (FRG), to the presidency of the United Nations Security Council. According to Diego Da Rin, the approximately five-page document outlines three objectives for the force: reclaim territories currently under gang control, secure critical infrastructure, and create an environment conducive to lasting stability, including the organization of elections, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the fight against arms trafficking.

According to the guest on the Panel Magik morning program, these objectives are not surprising, as they were already included in the resolution establishing the new force. The truly new element, he explained, is the establishment of a clear deadline: September 2028, three years after the Security Council approved the FRG. That deadline could, however, be revised depending on the progress of operations, the analyst cautioned, emphasizing the need for close coordination among the force's contingents, the Haitian National Police (PNH), and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H) if these objectives are to be achieved on schedule.
