A South Florida fundraiser and financier linked to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulently obtained COVID-19 relief funds that were used to finance the plot, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Becerra imposed the sentence on Keegan Harricharan, 42, of Coral Springs, after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering. The laundered funds came from loans issued under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, which were established under the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act), according to the statement.
