August is burning through its final days. On the security front, the accumulation of certain developments is generating its share of concern. Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police Vladimir Paraison is under pressure. The massacre announced by gangs in Kenscoff was not prevented. Several dozen people lost their lives during the night of August 23 to 24, 2026. Cornered, the acting Director General insisted that the PNH had not given up.
“We have never given up,” Paraison said. “There are police officers and equipment. The points we cover always have armored vehicles and police officers,” he maintained, in what sounds like a weak denial, even as an investigation should be announced and conducted to understand the causes of the failure of the security apparatus in Kenscoff.
