"Haitian journalists are victims of a cruel lack of financial resources, absence of support from institutions, and difficult access to information. For the past two years, they have also been targeted by gangs, subjected to kidnappings and assassinations with impunity," states a report published on Wednesday on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reminds that Haiti has been hit by a deep political and social crisis for several decades, which took a tragic turn with the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021 in the capital, Port-au-Prince. "This brutal end for a contested president, in a general climate of insecurity and violence, has opened a new era of uncertainty in the country," analyzes the report to explain the deterioration of working conditions for Haitian journalists.
