Haiti, along with the Dominican Republic and Cuba, is one of the population giants in the Caribbean region. During the official commemoration ceremony of World Population Day this year, Haitian officials estimated the population to be 12 million inhabitants. The last census in 2003 recorded a population of 8.812 million.

If the current population is estimated at 12 million inhabitants, Cuba's population is 11.26 million (2021), and the Dominican Republic's population is 11.12 million (2021). This would make Haiti the most populous country in the Caribbean, although this remains to be confirmed in the upcoming Habitat and Population census. However, nobody knows when this census will take place. The process is already 10 years behind schedule because, according to norms, the population census is conducted every 10 years.
