The academic year 2022-2023 has not been a walk in the park, as it has been littered with obstacles for educators, parents, and students alike. Even the official exam week for SN4 students, next week, is shaping up to be complicated due to the public transport unions' strike, aimed at pressuring the government to reduce petroleum product prices at the pump by 40%.
Last week, the government had announced a reduction of 10 gourdes in the gasoline price, bringing it down from 570 to 560 gourdes per gallon at the pump. The diesel price was also reduced by 50 gourdes, going from 670 to 620 gourdes per gallon. A decrease of 50 gourdes was also announced for the price of kerosene. These measures sparked anger among the union members and mockery from the public, who demanded a more substantial reduction in petroleum product prices in line with the international market.
