As the world of photography in Haiti witnesses an influx of new faces, women still remain less visible in this field that retains its predominantly male character. However, some, through their talent and persistence, manage to build a career and make a name for themselves in the industry. Rafaëlle Castera is a perfect example.
Rafaëlle Castera developed a fascination for the eighth art from her early childhood. She spent her free days in the darkroom, observing her grandfather Edouard Peloux, a prominent Haitian photographer, as he developed his own photos. "I must have been 6 or 7 years old, I used to lock myself in the darkroom with my grandfather, without asking too many questions. I loved the atmosphere, I adored watching him work. Since then, I caught the passion for photography," explains Ms. Castera.
