Following the United Nations Security Council's decision to deploy a multinational force to support the Haitian National Police, Haiti is at the center of the Caricom-Canada summit this week. Although it is not an event solely dedicated to the Haitian crisis, the situation in Haiti holds a prominent place. Prime Minister Ariel Henry is participating in this inaugural Caricom-Canada summit.
In addition to the Haitian crisis, this summit, held under the theme "Strategic Partners for a Resilient Future," will allow regional leaders to address points such as building inclusive and sustainable economies, increasing trade and investments, promoting multilateral collaboration, climate change and its impacts in the Caribbean, and ways to improve financing access for small island developing states in the region.
