Haitian universities, like all other sectors of national life, are severely affected by the serious sociopolitical crisis the country is facing. For the academic year 2023-2024, the enrollment in universities in Port-au-Prince has significantly decreased compared to previous academic years. While some attribute this to the departure of young people seeking opportunities abroad, it is also essential to consider whether universities in provincial cities, such as public universities in other regions, are attracting a portion of the clientele away from Port-au-Prince. The catastrophic results of last year's high school final exams should also be mentioned, as the percentage of students admitted to the baccalaureate was low.

The decline in the number of students is not the only problem facing universities in Port-au-Prince. There are also complaints that both professors and professionals from other fields are taking advantage of programs like Humanitarian Parole and other immigration opportunities to leave the country.
