"Economist Enomy Germain, President and CEO of Pro Eco Haiti, stated that in 2023, Haiti's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was approximately 593 billion gourdes. Eleven years earlier, the country's GDP was around 570 billion. It's as if Haiti has ceased to generate wealth for over 10 years," he indicated during the presentation at Le Plaza Hotel of the opinion survey results titled "Economic and Financial Barometer (BEF)," conducted by the consulting firm Pro Eco Haiti.
Enomy Germain attempted to explain the implications of the decrease in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which found itself at the same level as in 2012. He argued that poverty is spreading in Haiti. "The impoverishment of the most deprived classes is accelerating in Haiti. It is also essential to recall that the inflation rate approached the 50% mark in 2023, particularly in January 2023, where it was around 49.3%. Although a downward trend was observed in October 2023," stated the head of Pro Eco Haiti, emphasizing that there are more people and needs in 2023 than in 2012.
