Air transport has come to a halt in Haiti with the suspension of international and domestic flights due to attacks on Port-au-Prince International Airport as gangs tighten their grip and terrorize the entire metropolitan region, as observed by Le Nouvelliste on Monday, March 4, 2024. No commercial flights from the United States of America or France landed at Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Monday. None are confirmed for Tuesday, Le Nouvelliste has learned. No domestic flights were operated, and no private planes frequented the sole runway on March 4, 2024. In the early afternoon on Monday, once again, the airport facilities came under gunfire. An attempt to breach the runway, originating from a hole in the airport's perimeter wall, was thwarted. In addition to police officers stationed within the airport perimeter, soldiers from the Haitian Armed Forces were deployed to try to protect the facilities. By late afternoon, one of the fixed points of the Haitian National Police controlling access to the airport was assaulted by gang members who set it on fire.
